Ten rain-soaked stages – and lots of mud – greeted eight Team SIG shooters in Virginia at the Fredericksburg Rod and Gun for the 2016 USPSA VA/MD Section Championship last weekend. The team took four Top 10 finishes in the Production division shooting Grayguns-tuned SIG SAUER® P320F-9 pistols.

With significant rain and wind in the forecast, most stages were redesigned and simplified prior to the match for flow and safety reasons. Many stages lacked technical challenges due to the weather, leading to a very fast pace with few no-shoots and no partial targets. Despite the weather, the match organizers pulled off a fun weekend of shooting.

In the Production division, Phil Strader, Team SIG shooter and product manager at SIG SAUER, finished 1st, followed closely by Mason Lane. AJ Stuart finished 4th and Gerry Tetreau finished 9th to give Team SIG and the P320 four Top 10 finishes. Alma Cole (14th), Clay Klemm (21st), Harold Hawkins (27th) and Annette Evans (48th) round-out the team results. There were about 90 shooters in the Production division, and more than 240 attended the match.

Phil Strader’s Production win included seven Top 3 stage finishes, and wins in five of 10.

Mason Lane finished 1st Production in two stages, and had five Top 3 finishes. “It was a very fast match both in pace and management,” Lane said. “It was a pleasure to shoot with Phil and Gerry and their collective insights were much appreciated.” His favorite stage was a full-length field course with a combination of shooting on the move and some technical leans. “I liked it a lot an did really well on it.”

Annette Evans met her match goal, and earned a 2nd Lady finish overall. “I shot my game and met my match goals, including shooting somewhere in the neighborhood of 85 percent of available points, with only one penalty for the entire match,” she said. “My gun functioned flawlessly throughout the match, with minimal maintenance even with all of the mud.”

Team SIG shooter Alma Cole felt he dropped too many points overall, but had a lot of fun doing it and AJ Stuart was happy with his 4th place finish, but felt he could have done better.
