Overcast conditions and showers met some of the Team SIG shooters at the three-day USPSA Area 7 Championship in Augusta, Maine. Max Michel dominated the Open division and took the overall win, including first place finishes in all 10 stages. In the Production division, SIG SAUER-associated shooters filled five of the top 14 slots, and all were shooting the SIG P320F in 9mm.
Mason Lane finished 4th just behind Phil Strader, product manager at SIG SAUER, who finished 3rd. A.J. Stuart finished 7th, Gerry Tetreau finished 14th, and SIG SAUER Academy senior instructor Steven Gilcreast finished 11th.
Last year’s Area 7 Championship set the stage for a “more composed” Mason, where he was determined to be more in control at a comfortably-fast pace. “I shot the exact kind of match that I wanted to … a boring one,” Lane said. “I was top 10 on all but one stage, a short course, and won one stage.”
“Over the 10 stages, there was a good balance of quick field courses with plenty of options, a few short fast stages and a nice balance of steel and paper targets,” Lane said.
Doug Flavin and marketing coordinator Steve McGough also shot during the weekend for Team SIG.

Here is Stage 5 of the Area 7 championships, “Which Side.” AJ took 3rd place on this stage.
From Mason Lane
A stage win for Mason Lane. Mason had formulated four different plans for this stage. There was lots of discussion with regard to the most efficient way to shoot it; as well as how to go about the activator sequence before the swinger.
