More than 300 competition shooters attended the USPSA Mid-Atlantic Sectional in June at Ontelaunee Rod & Gun Club in Pennsylvania. Team SIG – shooting the SIG SAUER P320-F9 in the Production division – impressed with Mason Lane and A.J. Stuart finishing first and second respectively.
Harold Hawkins (14th), Clay Klemm (18th) and Annette Evans (27th) put five Team SIG shooters in the top 30 out of about 80 shooters in the Production division. All team members are shooting a Grayguns-tuned P320.
Lane shot the match on Friday with the staff, just before he headed to North Carolina to shoot the 3-Gun 2016 War Sport Team Challenge. He finished with four stage wins and 11 top five stage finishes out of 12. Stuart finished with three stage wins and nine top five finishes. It was a tight finish between 1st and 2nd, with a separation of about 23 points (1.47%) between the top two Production finishers.
The “Level 3 quality” match was shot over three days, featuring a high number of competitors with a great depth of talent. “Stages were technical and challenging but fun with a beach vacation theme we all enjoyed,” said Evans. “Many of the stages had interesting props with teeter totters, rocking surfboards and balance beams, but never to the detriment of a shooting challenge mixing close hoser targets, far hardcover targets and just about everything in between.” A significant number of Production shooters were classified as B or above, and as a result, Evans was delighted with her overall finish, with two, top 10 division stage finishes. She finished 2nd Lady, with three overall Lady stage wins.
The match is becoming one of the more popular competition shooting events on the East Coast. “From a stage design and aesthetics perspective, this is one of the best sectional matches in the country,” said Klemm. “It’s well-run, a lot of fun, and I’d put it right up there with Nationals on my list of must-go matches in the future.”
Unofficial match results for the Mid-Atlantic Sectional are now available on Practiscore. Next up for major USPSA matches in the Mid-Atlantic and Northeast regions is the Area 7 Championship in Augusta, Maine on July 9 & 10, and the Area 8 Championship back at Ontelaunee on Sept. 3 & 4.
