garland-2015-cascade-sectional-015Team SIG’s Bill Garland Jr. followed up a 2nd place Production finish at the USPSA Columbia Cascade Section Championship with a Production win at the 2016 Oregon Open Championship last weekend. More than 200 shooters attended the section championship and 130 attended the Oregon Open. Garland shoots a Grayguns-tuned SIG SAUER P320F-9 in USPSA Production and carries the P320 on-duty as a law enforcement officer and SWAT team member in Oregon.

The Section Championship was an eight stage match shot in very hot conditions at the Albany Rifle and Pistol Club in Shedd, Ore. “I shot the first three stages a bit too loose with shots, costing me too many points,” Garland said. “Early recognition of the issue allowed me to make adjustments on the last five stages and I ended up shooting almost 94 percent of the available match points.”

Garland finished second to Matthew Swanson, also a law enforcement officer in the area. “Matt has really put in a ton of work and become a very good shooter,” Garland noted. “I’m looking forward to a bit of redemption next weekend at the Oregon Open.”

2016 Oregon Open Championship

At a very competitive match in the Production division at the USPSA Oregon Open Championship, Garland took the win by about one-half of a point. The eight stage match at the Jackson County Shooting Sports Complex offered a collection tight shots with hard cover and a lot of no-shoot targets.

“The rust from a couple months without shooting a match was starting to chip off at this match,” Garland said. “I was able to push a little more than I did the previous week at the Columbia Cascade Section Championship, and I again shot 94 percent of available points with only one penalty.”

Garland noted he’s been very comfortable with the accuracy of the SIG SAUER Elite V-Crown ammunition, and was confident in his A-zone hits during the match. “Other shooters were holding into the C-zone to afford themselves some margin for error,” Garland said. “This ultimately was the difference in the match as there were some very good shooters on the line. I was beyond fortunate to walk away with the match win.”
